Working offline and syncing

How the mobile app behaves without a network, what the sync indicators mean, and how to resolve a failed sync.

Field Worker Updated 6 Aug 2026

The app is designed to be used with no network at all. You do not need to do anything special to work offline — just keep working.

Before you leave

Sign in while you still have signal. Signing in downloads your assignment: your geography, your team, your stock balance, and any households registered in previous cycles. If you have not signed in since your assignment changed, you will not have the right data in the field.

The home screen shows a readiness indicator. Green means you have everything you need for the day.

While you are working

Everything you capture is saved to the device first. The counter at the top of the screen shows how many records are waiting to sync. A number here is normal and not a problem.

When signal returns

Sync happens automatically in the background. You do not need to press anything. The counter drops as records upload.

If records will not sync

  1. Confirm you have signal — open any website to check
  2. Leave the app open on the home screen for a minute; sync retries on a timer
  3. Check the failed items list, if there is one. Failed records usually have a validation problem, such as a date of birth in the future
  4. Do not clear the app data or reinstall — that deletes unsynced records permanently

If records still fail after that, raise a support ticket and include the device model and the number of pending records. Do not uninstall the app first.

What never gets overwritten

Service delivery records are append-only. If you and a colleague both register in the same settlement, both sets of records are kept. Nobody's work is lost to a late sync.
